Beka Hawkins
Missions and Music Staff
Beka Hawkins joined the DSEA evangelism team in July of 2009, as a Missions and Music Staff Assistant. Beka is a graduate of Pensacola Christian College with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and a minor in music. God is using Beka in a mighty way as she serves Him with her singing voice and in many other capacities.
Beka knew from an early age that God was calling her to full-time ministry. Born in a Christian home, Beka always knew that God loved her and had a plan for her life. At the age of three, she gave her life to Jesus Christ! Though it was difficult for her to really grasp what God had in store for her life, she knew she wanted to be a part of God’s family!
Soon after giving her all to Christ, Beka began to feel an urging of the Lord to be a missionary, and to follow God's calling on her life. In the fifth grade, Beka heard a missionary speak about his ministry in Ireland. That day, she decided to surrender her life to full-time missions, no matter where it might take her. Soon after that, Beka began singing in school and church choirs, and it became evident that music was the gift that God had given her to use to reach the lost.
Beka studied criminal justice in order to have a greater understanding of how to help hurting people in the world. She believed that learning to have compassion for people who are struggling and hurting would be excellent preparation for ministry.
After graduating from college, Beka began to serve in various ministries. She started her church's Puppet Team, and began working with teenagers in the youth group. She worked at the YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association) as a counselor and director, focusing on helping underprivileged children. God began to put a desire in her heart to continue to work with children from broken homes. In November, 2007 Beka joined the staff of Boys and Girls Country in Houston as a houseparent for primarily teenage girls whose families were in crisis. This ministry strengthened Beka in many ways, preparing her for future ministry.
Beka has enjoyed serving at DSEA, and helps to manage audio, video and computer needs, as well as providing administrative support for Amy and David Stockwell, and other DSEA staff members. Beka travels overseas with DSEA teams, where she uses her gift of music to help lead in praise and worship. She also testifies and sings to thousands of students and many people through DSEA outreach events. God has already sent Beka to minister in the nations of Zambia, Uganda and The Philippines, and Beka is looking forward to what God is going to do in Kenya, Tanzania and other countries this year.
